Carlos Samaniego is a Postsecondary Coach with the Network for College Success. Growing up in the City of Chicago and as a product of the Chicago Public Schools, Carlos prides himself in having deep roots and passion in favor of the success of city systems. As a postsecondary coach, Carlos collaborates with CPS counselors and college & career coaches to provide equitable and meaningful pre-college counseling to high school students in order to improve graduation rates, college acceptance rates, and college retention rates; while also supporting students in need of non-traditional postsecondary options.
Carlos’ passion to work with young adults initiated while working in the non-for-profit sector for over ten years. It was in those years that Carlos contributed to improve community areas around the city through health education, mental health support and advocacy.
Furthermore, through the years, Carlos has worked in support of young adults under different capacities; Becoming A Man (BAM) Counselor at Little Village Lawndale Campus—Social Justice and Infinity High Schools specifically, Associate Dean of Students at Lake View High School, and most recently as Professional School Counselor for John Hancock College Preparatory High School. Carlos acquired a bulk of his school counseling experience at Hancock where he served as Department Chair. In this role, he was able to contribute to a department that is flourishing to meet the needs of students.
Carlos earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois at Chicago, and earned a master’s degree in School Counseling from Concordia University Chicago.
