Joyce Randall is a Transformation Coach at the UChicago Network of College Success (NCS). She has co-lead the NCS Freshman Success Improvement Community in having school-based teams adopt continuous improvement methodologies in the realization of racial and educational equity for all students. Joyce has committed her career to education as the vehicle through which the promises of the American democracy is realized. She has consistently worked within dynamic and courageous environments that seek to lovingly and responsibly take the risks necessary for learning and equity.
She started her career as a founding teacher of one the nation’s first turnaround schools, Orr Academy High School, managed by the Academy of Urban Leadership (AUSL). During her tenure, she began a leadership team for upperclassmen to mentor and orient 9th graders to the school community. The leadership team developed their own agency as they contributed to strengthening the school’s culture and climate. She then went on to AUSL’s Wendell Phillips High School to support teachers in the work of developing young people with empathy, agency, and imagination as the Curriculum and Instructional Coach for the social studies department.
Prior to joining the NCS team, Joyce served as the National Program Director for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. As the National Program Director, she designed and implemented a training and induction program for mentors which allowed them to receive the coaching and support necessary to empower young people in the development of their sense of self and their connection to their communities.
Joyce earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Africana Studies from the University of Notre Dame. Additionally, she holds her Masters of Arts in Teaching with a Middle School endorsement from National Louis University.
