Golden Apple Foundation Honors Karen Calloway with Excellence in Leadership Award for Outstanding Contributions to Education

The Golden Apple Foundation has awarded Karen Calloway, principal of Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago, with the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Leadership.
Calloway, a longtime partner of the UChicago Network for College Success, was selected as the recipient from over 130 nominations of school leaders in Pre-K-12th grade. The award recognizes her significant and sustained positive impact on the school, creation of an inclusive culture, and delivery of remarkable student growth. Calloway's vision for the school includes providing students with access to an educational experience that prepares them for their chosen careers or college, socially and emotionally.
The Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Leadership comes with a cash prize of $10,000, split equally between Calloway and the school. The funds can be used for a project of Calloway's choice that benefits the school community. Additionally, as an award recipient, Calloway becomes a Fellow of the Golden Apple Academy of Educators, joining a community of educators who play a vital role in preparing the next generation of teachers through the Golden Apple Scholars and Accelerators programs. These programs are dedicated to addressing the teacher shortage in Illinois.
