Team Member Spotlight: Kimberly Hinton

We would not be able to fulfill our mission without our staff, a group of professionals who intentionally work across difference, are experts in their field, and care deeply about young people and their postsecondary journeys.

Each month, we’ll highlight a member of our team by “passing the mic” to hear directly from them about their work and purpose. This month, we are highlighting Dr. Kimberly Hinton, Deputy Director of the Partner School Network.

What do you do at the Network for College Success?

Deputy Director, Partner School Network*

How do you help high school teams build on the work they’re doing and make improvements?

Part of my responsibility lies in supporting the ongoing development of a phenomenal team of Transformation Coaches who support school leaders and teams in creating learning environments that see and honor the brilliance of the young people we serve. In addition, our coaches support schools in creating systems and structures to become places of innovation and improvement in order to improve the outcomes of their least served young people.

What about the culture of NCS empowers you to show up the way you do?

From the moment I began the interview process at NCS, I knew I’d found my people. It is a culture that supports and celebrates all of who I am and the gifts I bring to this calling.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?

First, I get to work with some of the most brilliant, compassionate, mission-driven people in the field. I honestly could not ask for a better team. Second, we are doing the work that matters for the Black and Brown young people in this country.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement during your time with NCS?

There are so many. This work is rewarding in a number of ways. I think one of the biggest achievements has been hearing from coachees about how being in partnership with us has supported them in being brave enough to disrupt and dismantle inequitable systems and practices across their school building.

Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or interests that you enjoy pursuing?

Since we’re empty nesters, I love binge watching shows on the couch with Husbae during down time when we’re not busy attending events. I also love to travel with my daughter and friends.
